THE ADDIS ABABA 
PRIVATE INDUSTRIES ASSOCIATION (AAPIA) 

  • The Addis Ababa Private Industries Association (AAPIA) comprises of private industries within 15 -20 Km. radius of the city of Addis Ababa.  Whereas the Association is organized in such a way that it embraces over 20 sectors of small industries, it is a professional association invisaged to bring together over 3500 members.

  • This Association was established on 3 November 1993 in accordance with the article 1 Number 1 "A" of the charter of the Transitional Government of Ethiopia and Number 404 of the Civil Code, and Proclamation 42/85.  The Association commenced its activities after it received its certificate of legal personality from the pertinent body on 17 February 1994.

OBJECTIVES AND FUNCTIONS OF THE ASSOCIATION

  • With a view to speeding up the development of private industries the Association forges relations with local and foreign financial institutions to thereby create favourable conditions for the development of the private sector by way of securing aid and loan.

  • The Association seeks ways and means to help products of private industries to be of high quality to thereby be able to go beyond satisfying local needs and earn foreign exchange by winning foreign markets.

  • The Association seeks ways and means of enabling various sectors of private industries to purchase the necessary raw materials from local and foreign markets.

  • The Association exerts unreserved effort to create favourable condition whereby private industrialists and professionals could improve themselves through exchange of technologies and skill up-grading training.

  • The Association facilitates the processes of searching market of products of private industries.

  • Based on polices and proclamations to be issued by the government, the Association exerts ceaseless efforts and follow-up to see to it that the development of the private sector is ensured by way of settling problems through joints endeavours.

  • In co-operation with Region 14 Industry and Handicrafts Bureau, the association endeavours to enable various sectors of private industries to establish closer ties with pertinent government and private institutions and thereby get the necessary services.

  • The Association will hire professionals to enable members to get common services as regards the exchange of information to develop their business or the acquisition of legal advice, services which private industrialists used to get individually against very high expense.

  • As far as its capacity allows, the Association distributes among its members a monthly newspaper and various magazines with a view to helping the development of private industries and pertaining to topical national and international issues of industrial development.

  • The Association organizes seminars and workshops aimed at promoting the development of private industries and members will be helped to improve their skills through knowledge they gain form local and foreign professionals.

  • The Association will endeavour to encourage the industrialist to fully utilize his creative capacity and thereby improve production and productivity.  With this in view, the Association seeks ways and means whereby industrialists who register remarkable works of creativity are awarded scholarship trainings in their areas of specialisation locally and abroad.  Besides, the Association prepares and awards various prizes with a view to emulating and encouraging professionals in private industries who endeavour to register new works of creativity.

  • With a view to introducing the products of private industries locally and abroad, the Association will organize exhibitions at various places; publishes and distributes various pamphlets and posters.

  • With a view to promoting closer links among private industries, the Association invites local and foreign industrialists, creates forums for exchange of ideas by way of organizing working visits; facilitates favourable conditions for each member to get the chance for working visit abroad.

  • The Addis Ababa Private Industries Association will have a permanent exhibition centre and engineering designers to ensure that members organized under the Association could introduce their products.
