WHAT IS OrMSEDA?

Oromiya Micro & Small Enterprise Development Agency is a regional Agency sponsored by Oromiya Regional state, established by proclamation no 13/1998 and autonomously has started its work since January 2000

OBJECTIVE & MISSION

OrMSEDA is a mission-oriented organization, aiming to promote MSE sector of the economy in the region, and thereby help in achieving sustained all round economic development in the region in particular and in the country in general.

APPROACHES & ACTIVITIES

OrMSEDA seeks to realize its primary objective of promoting MSE sector through various means including:

Consultancy

  • Technical counseling  -OrMSEDA guides prospective and existing entrepreneurs in production process and machineries etc.

  • Preparation of project profiles -OrMSEDA prepares project profile & bankable business plan for co-operatives free of charges & for private MSE operator with cost sheering bass.

  • Diagnostic studies - Based on the request of the entrepreneurs OrMSEDA conduct diagnostic studies for identifying the reasons of sickness of the unit. Proposal for rehabilitation of the unit are then given 

  • Provision of extension services -OrMSEDA provide extension services for small-scale industries and services providing firms on:

  • Marketing, organizational structure, production process and financial planning

Training

Providing training to MSE, which enables them to:

  • To understand the principles of good business management

  • Start new business

  • Generate business idea

  • Cost (price) products, goods and services properly

  • Keep record properly

  • Plan future business activities

  • Identify who are their customers, how they provide them with the products and services they need, how to set prices that they are willing to pay, how to get the products and services to them and how to inform and attract them to buy their products and services.

  • Develop competence in running the business

Creating linkages

As a marketing assistance to MSE co-operatives, OrMSEDA trying to create linkages between government bodies and cooperatives (outsourcing some public services to co-operatives).

Forming Co-operatives

OrMSEDA will assist those who need to form MSE co-operative.

  • Conducting Awareness creation workshops & seminars

  • Conducting workshops & seminars to create awareness among entrepreneur's to use business development services (BDS) provided by OrMSEDA and other providers.

Providing Information

  • Providing relevant information to entrepreneur's like:

  • Technology information

  • Marketing information

  • Finical and training institutions

  • Conducting need assessment studies

ORGANISATION & STRUCTURE OF Or MSEDA

In order to achieve the objective currently the Agency has started the work with 16 experts and 20 supporting staff in the head office level (in Addis Ababa) , 24 experts with in six (6) branch offices situated at Ambo, Adama, Nekemt, Asela, Chiro and Jima .OrMSEDA main office have three Departments, training, Consultancy and Information, and project preparation and Facilitation.

CLIENTS (TARGET GROUP) OF OrMSEDA

The customers are entrepreneurs who are involved at Micro and Small Enterprise. As recent studies shows there are around 34,8673 entrepreneurs are involved in Micro and Small Enterprises with in Oromia region. That is 39.1% of the Country.

ACTIVITES DONE SO FAR

The major activities have been done by the OrMSEDA was:

  • Conducted a survey to identify the problems of MSEs in the region

  • Providing training to more the 500 existing and potential entrepreneurs 

  • Awareness creation about the BDS provided by OrMSEDA to the entrepreneurs.

  • Preparation of the regional MSE development draft strategy.

  • Conducted resource assessment survey in the 12-zones of the region to identify the business opportunities of the region.

  • Provided industrial extension service for Small edible oil industries and dry coffee processing in 5-zones of the region. In addition provided advisory services for small-scale edible oil industry owners in the area of supply of inputs and marketing outputs, production process, selection of machineries, financial management, & bookkeeping, customer handling, and effective use of manpower and materials.

  • Provided training to build the capacity of the experts in the area of extension and business consultancy, and

  • Under taking the construction of the Technical training center and garment training center in Ambo.
